On the surface, Cursor looks underpriced. The value gap between "suggest this line" (Copilot at $10/mo) and "refactor these five files" (Cursor at $20/mo) is enormous. But Cursor's pricing makes more sense when you factor in the competitive landscape. Windsurf, GitHub Copilot's agent mode, Claude Code, and others are all competing for the same developer wallet. Cursor's flat-rate model is a deliberate penetration play. The risk is that Cursor never transitions to a model that captures more value. A usage-sensitive layer would let casual users stay cheap while power users pay proportionally.
